Dear Friends,
Each year around this time, I reach out to many of the same people, and before anything else I want to say thank you—not just for past donations, but for your patience and continued support. I know my fundraising circle is small, and I never take for granted that you’re willing to hear this story again.
I’m riding once more in the Project Hero’s Honor Ride. Project Hero is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to building adaptive bicycles for disabled Veterans and to sponsoring group rides for those living with PTSD. These rides are about far more than miles on the road—they create community, purpose, and connection for Veterans who too often feel isolated after their service.
This cause is deeply personal to me. I am the son of a World War II combat-wounded veteran, and I spent my professional career as a rehabilitation research scientist at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. I’ve seen firsthand how physical injury, psychological trauma, and loss of community can linger long after service ends—and how powerful the right support can be in restoring dignity, independence, and hope.
You may wonder why I keep coming back to this ride year after year. The answer is simple: the need hasn’t gone away. Veterans and first responders are still struggling. Adaptive bikes are still changing lives. And the shared experience of riding together continues to be a uniquely effective way to rebuild trust, confidence, and belonging.
If you’re able to support this year’s ride—whether by donating, sharing the link, or simply taking a moment to learn more—I would be sincerely grateful. And if this isn’t the year for you, please know that your past generosity has already made a real difference.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for standing with me in support of those who have given so much in service to others.
With Gratitude - Patrick
